Vernon Clark May's Obituary
Vernon Clark May, age 96, of Remus, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born April 17, 1929, to Allen and Esther (Blakeslee) May, Vernon lived a life defined by faith, family, service, and hard work. He proudly served his country during the Korean War, quickly rising through the ranks as a natural leader. Military service was deeply rooted in his family, with all his brothers serving honorably in World War II and Korea—and all returning safely home. Following the tradition of military service two of Vernon’s grandsons serving their country proudly in Iraq and Afghanistan, in which Vernon held at high regard.
On October 22, 1949, Vernon married the love of his life, Ada Stickler. Together they built a beautiful life, raising their family on the farm. He was also deeply committed to his community, serving as Executive Director of the USDA-ASCS retiring in 1989, also serving in various positions on the Sheridan Township board for many years. A dedicated Michigan Mason, Vernon’s quiet strength, honesty, and reserved nature left a lasting impression on all who knew him.
An avid outdoorsman, he found joy in hunting, fishing the Great Lakes, cutting firewood—even into his 90s—and traveling. Above all, he cherished time spent with family.
Vernon is survived by his children, Janet (Philip) Siegler, Allen May, and Joyce (David) Porter; his grandchildren, Elizabeth Campbell, Joshua (Mary) Randall, Andrew (Stephanie) Siegler, Angela (Alan) Montgomery, Aaron (Jamie) Siegler, and Allie (Joseph) Bierling; as well as 13 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 62 years, Ada; daughter, Susan; and his parents, Allen and Esther.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, September 17, 2025, from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. A memorial service will take place Thursday, September 18, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Janowicz Family Funeral Home, with family receiving guests one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial contributions be made to the Mecosta County VFW in Vernon’s honor.
