Shirley L. Kelley's Obituary
Big Rapids Shirley L. Kelley, 68, of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, February 3, at Mecosta County Medical Center. She was born June 3, 1939, in Sidney, Ohio, the daughter of John and Pauline (Eustache) Shroyer. As a young woman, Shirley moved to Big Rapids with her family, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1957. For several years, Shirley worked at Hanchetts Manufacturing. More recently, she had worked at various administrative positions at Ferris State University until retiring in 1994. Shirley was a long time member of St. Peters Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, and also a member of the Big Rapids Aerie Eagles #2535 Ladies Auxiliary. She wintered in Zephyrhills, Florida, where she was a member of the BPO Elks #2731, and the Moose Lodge Chapter #1682. On June 28, 1958, she married Marvin C. Kelley, who preceded her in death in 1984. Surviving are her children, Colleen (Greg) Olson of White Cloud, David of Traverse City, Dean of New York, NY, and Kathleen Leach of Davison; 7 grandchildren, Kelley, Kara, Stacy, Lauren, Kayla, Leela, and Ashley; sister Sharon Johansen of Big Rapids; brother Dale (Kathy) Shroyer of Georgia; and several nieces and nephews. Shirley was also preceded in death by her parents and a brother-in-law Dale Johansen. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m., Wednesday, February 6, 2008, at St. Peters Lutheran Church in Big Rapids, with Rev. John Bookshaw officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland View Cemetery. Memorial contributions for St. Peters or the American Lung Association may be left at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where Shirleys family will greet friends Tuesday from 4-8 p.m., and at the church prior to services on Wednesday.
