Donald A. Peterman's Obituary
Donald A. Peterman, 77, of White Cloud, passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 2, 1948, in Greenville, Michigan, the son of Lawrence and Elsie (Moffett) Peterman. After graduating from high school, Donald volunteered for service and joined the U.S. Army, serving from 1968 to 1972 during the Vietnam era. Following his active duty, he continued his service with the Michigan Army National Guard.
Donald was a proud and active member of American Legion Post No. 98 in Big Rapids, AMVETS Post 1941 of Big Rapids, as well as the Eagles and the VFW. He was self-employed as a mechanic and was happiest in the garage, especially when working on his hot rods and his beloved El Camino. He also enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, and baseball.
Donald was known as a strong, realistic man who was bold, funny, and unapologetically honest—he truly had no filter. He was loyal, dedicated, and immensely proud, especially of his family, whom he loved with his whole heart. To his grandchildren and children alike, he was affectionately known as “Popps.”
He is survived by his son, Jeff Peterman (Tasha); daughters, Holly (Bruce) Thomas, and Brandi Peterman; grandchildren, Joshua Peterman, Hannah (Robbie) Poore, Leah Peterman, Alexzandra Plotts, Brooke and Nick Thomas, Mallory Heart, Morgan and Benjamin Booher, Macie, and Bailey; great-grandchildren, Henry and Robbie Poore and Walker Plotts; nephews, Tom and Howard Baldwin; nieces, Gail (Rick) Rynard and Dawn (Terry) Satours; nephews Duane (Kim) Peterman, Tim (Karen) Peterman, and Darren (Tina) Peterman; along with many other nieces, nephews, and extended family members. He is also survived by his beloved dog, Shorty.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 15, 2026, at the Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Finn officiating. The family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Donald will be laid to rest in the spring of 2026 at Goodwell Township Cemetery, with full military honors under the auspices of AMVETS Post 1941 and American Legion Post No. 98.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to AMVETS Post 1941 or American Legion Post No. 98, both of Big Rapids.
