David Allen McGuire's Obituary
David A. McGuire, 71, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 26, 2025, at his home, surrounded by his loving family.
He was born September 15, 1954, in Big Rapids, the son of John and Eva (Van Alstine) McGuire, and was a lifelong resident of the area. David was self-employed, earning a living cutting firewood, a job he took great pride in. He enjoyed spending time with his family and friends, and—true to his nature—found joy even in the simple, hard work of cutting wood.
David is survived by his wife of 42 years, Shawn (Hayden) McGuire; his children Pamela (Timothy) Van Alstine of Hersey, Dale McGuire of Reed City, Tami Davy of Rodney, and David M. McGuire of Big Rapids; his stepchildren Steve (Samantha) Decator II of Big Rapids and Sarah (Mondo) Garza of Canyon Lake, TX; 13 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother Cecil (Linda) McGuire of Stanton; four sisters, Barbara Fagerlie of Big Rapids, Edna Kroesing of Big Rapids, Elaine Nutt of Tennessee, and Janet (Ollie) Byrnes of Reed City; along with several nieces, nephews, and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Robert and Bud; and two sisters, Myrtle and Sandra.
Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 30, 2025, at Mohnke Janowicz Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with visitation beginning at 11:00 a.m. David will be laid to rest at Grant Center Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the family.
