Dale William Appelgreen's Obituary
Dale William Appelgreen, 76, passed away unexpectedly on January 1, 2026, at Corewell Health Big Rapids Hospital. He was born September 13, 1949, in Beal City, Michigan, the son of Martin and Genevieve (Faber) Appelgreen.
Dale grew up on a farm, where he learned the value of hard work at an early age—a lesson that stayed with him throughout his life. He proudly served in the military before beginning a long and accomplished career in the electrical trade. Starting as an apprentice, Dale advanced through the ranks to journeyman and ultimately became a master electrician. Over the years, he worked for Remus Electric and several other companies, retiring from Kent Power after many years of dedicated service.
A true farm boy at heart, Dale never lost his love for the land. He enjoyed the outdoors, tractors, and spending time with friends. He also loved traveling, especially alongside his beloved wife Benille “Bean”. Known for being a little ornery and opinionated, Dale balanced that trait with a big heart—he would do anything for anyone and deeply loved his family.
Dale is survived by his son, Brett Appelgreen; his daughter, Holly Olson, and her husband, Kevin; his stepchildren, Clyde “Chip” (Laura) Whaley IV, Dale (Tammy) Whaley; his grandchildren, Natalie and Sydney Olson, Jared, Bryson, and Brayden Whaley; his sister, Luanne (Jamie) Gugisburg; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Bean Appelgreen, his parents, granddaughter Taylor, and his sister Karlene.
Dale will be remembered for his strong work ethic, his love of the farm and outdoors, his quick wit, and the deep devotion he had for those he loved.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, January 24, 2026, at the Village of Mecosta Free Methodist Church, 101 E. Main St., Mecosta, MI, with Reverend Dar Howard officiating. Dale’s family will greet friends beginning at 10 a.m., Saturday at the church. To express condolences to the family visit https://janowiczfamilyfuneralhome.com.
