Carl Leroy VanAlstine's Obituary
Big Rapids - Carl Leroy VanAlstine, 73, of Big Rapids, passed away peacefully Sunday, March 2, 2014, at his residence in Grant Township He was born on September 27, 1940 in Reed City, the son of Harold and Vivian (Maguire) VanAlstine, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1959. On September 23 of that same year, Carl married Sandra K. Dawson. Carl lived and worked on the family farm his entire life, and served on the Grant Township Board of Review. He was an avid outdoorsman and especially loved hunting. He is survived by his wife, Sandra; three daughters, Tracy (Bernie) Powers of Byron Center, Ann (Eric) Smith of Bear Lake, and Vicki (Scott) Kebler of Grand Ledge; six grandchildren, Cameron (Emily) & Ian Smith, Alex & Kyle Powers, and Randy & Isabelle Kebler; two great grandchildren, Isabella and Eli; as well as numerous beloved family members. Funeral services for Carl will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Pastor Wally Dawson officiating. Memorial contributions to the American Heart Association may be left at the funeral home, where Carl's family will greet friends today (Tuesday), from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m., and prior to services on Wednesday.
