Life Legacy

Big Rapids - John H. Pozniak, 81, of Big Rapids, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2008, at Trillium Woods in Byron Center.

John was born in March 8, 1926, in Virginia, MN, the son of Benjamin and Pearl (Reshel) Pozniak. He served in the US Army Air Corp with duties in radar operation, and following his discharge he graduated from the American Institute of Technology. He then taught at American Television Institute of Technology and also IBM in Chicago, IL, and was senior electrical engineer for Federal Electric Co. in Streator, IL.

In 1959, John moved to Big Rapids, where he was an Associate Professor of Electrical/Electronic Engineering at Ferris State University for 31 years. During his time with Ferris, he also attended classes at Michigan State University, designed and set up courses for vocational instructors in Jamaica, developed and taught courses for American Natural Resources, co-authored a chapter on automotive electrical displays, and worked for television stations channel 8 and channel 35 of Grand Rapids, MI.

John was an avid fisherman and hunter, and an active member of the American Legion and the Knights of Columbus. His wonderful stories and sense of humor will be missed by all those who knew him.

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Veronica (Smith); their children, Adrienne (Michel) Carpentier of Paris, France, Andrew (Cheryl) of Alpena, Judith of Grand Rapids, and Alyssa of Boston, Massachusetts; 1 brother, David (Mary) of Wixom; and nieces and nephews Paul Pozniak, Anne Ellen Johnson, Marianne (Mel) Guza, Therese Moilan, Peter Pozniak, John (Amy) Pozniak, Mark Rozeske, Angela (Chuck) Kujawa, Christy (Dave) Brough, and David (Susan Moore) Pozniak. John was preceded in death by his parents, son John, brother Donald, sister Marian (Rozeske), and niece Kathy Rozeske.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, January 12, 2008, at St. Pauls Campus Parish in Big Rapids, with Fr. Matt Barnum celebrant. Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery. The Rosary Service will be 7:00 p.m. on Friday at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Johns family will greet friends from 6-8 p.m. on Friday at the funeral home, and at the church after 10:30 a.m. on Saturday.
