Life Legacy


William Perry Huntey, age 75, of Stanwood, passed away on Sunday, June 2, 2013 at Metro Health in Grand Rapids after a brief illness, surrounded by his loving family.

He was born on July 12, 1937 in Stanwood, the son of William and Ruth (Anderson) Huntey, and graduated from Big Rapids High School in 1955. William earned his Bachelor’s Degree from Ferris State College, and his Master’s Degree in Educational Administration from Central Michigan University.

For many years, William was a teacher, administrator, coach and athletic director with the Morley Stanwood Community Schools. Upon retiring, he continued to be active with athletics and initiated the annual Morley Stanwood Sports Boosters Golf Outing. William loved following his grandchildren’s sporting endeavors at Morley Stanwood and he enjoyed all different kinds of outdoor activities, farming, golfing and spending his winters in Florida. He was a longtime member of Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood.

William is survived by Linda (Denslow), his wife of 52 years; three children, Craig Huntey, Cheryl (Tony) Berry and Clark (Chris) Huntey, all of Stanwood, ten grandchildren, Anessa, Rebekah, Ashley, Tyler, Kyle, Alexis, Chase, Nicolas, Breanna and Braelyn, and two cousins, David (Bettie) and John Anderson. William was preceded in death by his parents.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Thursday, June 6, 2013, at Northland United Methodist Church in Stanwood, with Pastor Dominic Tommy officiating. Burial will be in the Fairview Cemetery near Stanwood. William’s family will greet friends on Wednesday from 2-8 p.m. at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, and prior to services at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in his name may be made to the Morley Stanwood Sports Boosters or Northland United Methodist Church, with envelopes available at the funeral home.
