Big Rapids –Elfrieda C. Curtis, Age 92, of Big Rapids,  passed away Monday September 14, 2009 at Altercare of Big Rapids.

She was born October 25, 1916 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany.  Mrs. Curtis took pride in being the first in her family to graduate from high school. Doing so qualified her to become a Captain in the Women’s Army Corp.  She traveled with her husband whose job was setting up new Hudson’s, Marshall Field’s and K-Mart stores around the country. Mrs. Curtis moved to Big Rapids from Springfield, IL to live near her daughter Pamela who was an attorney.  For the past 20 years she enjoyed playing in the Big Rapids Hospital Auxillary Bridge Marathon.

She is survived by her son John M. Curtis, a grandson, Christopher M. True and three nieces.  Preceeding her in death are her husband Charles C. Curtis Jr. and daughter Pamela (Curtis) True.

A memorial service will be announced for a later date by the Mohnke Funeral Home.
