John M. Flood, Jr.
Big Rapids –John M. Flood, Jr., 75, of Chippewa Lake, passed away Tuesday, July 28, 2009, at his residence.
He was born April 4, 1934, in Wyandotte, the son of John M., Sr. and Marilyn (Minnes) Flood, and graduated from Detroit McKenzie High School. John then enrolled at Ferris Institute and graduated from the College of Pharmacy in 1956. John was also an alumnus of Kappa Psi Fraternity Ferris Charter.
For over 30 years, John was known as the Pharmacist in Hemlock, serving the community and surrounding areas faithfully until retiring. He also volunteered for many years on the Richland Township Fire Department, and served as the Fire Chief for a short time.
John was a member of St. Paul’s Campus Parish in Big Rapids. An avid duck hunter, John also loved to relax and enjoy the view of Chippewa Lake from his home.
On October 29, 1960, in Lansing, John married Kathleen Decker, who preceded him in death on July 29, 2005. Surviving are his children, John M. (Lynn) Flood, III of Monument, Colorado and Sabrina Marlette of Chippewa Lake; 3 grandchildren, Brandon Marlette, Sean and Erin Flood; and several nieces and nephews. John was also preceded in death by his parents and infant brother.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m., Friday, July 31, 2009, at St. Paul’s Campus Parish in Big Rapids, with Fr. Lam T. Le officiating. Burial will be in the Chippewa Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions for the American Heart Association may be left at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where John’s family will greet friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Thursday. To John’s Family, I’m so sorry for your loss, I knew John from Cardiac Rehab and all of us from Cardiac
Rehab will miss him. May the good Lord be with his family in their time of need.
