Ruth E. Aiken
Big Rapids – Ruth Elaine Aiken, 67, of Big Rapids, passed away Saturday, May 9, 2009, at Mecosta County Medical Center in Big Rapids.
She was born June 24, 1941, in Caro, the daughter of Arthur and Olive (Milner, Drake) Aiken and graduated from Caro High School in 1959. She attended Ferris Institute and later received her cosmetology degree.
Ruth lived in various locations including East Lansing, MI; San Diego, CA; Bradenton and Inverness, FL. She came to Big Rapids to live with her sister, Doris Schwaderer, in 2002.
Ruth loved games and puzzles of all types and was involved in bowling, a game group with friends and on-line interactive games. She was active with her church, Big Rapids Assembly of God and took pleasure in putting together PowerPoint presentations for the hymns at church services. She was also involved with the Mecosta County Pulmonary Rehab Center and played harmonica with the Windpipes Harmonica Club. She enjoyed the performances they gave at various schools and events in the area.
She is survived by her sister, Doris (Drake) Schwaderer; sister-in-law, Julia Aiken; brother-in-law, Lewis Livingston; nieces, Susan Schwaderer (Bob Lawrence), Barbara Schwaderer (Craig McGirr), Linda (Aiken) McNett (Ron), Karen (Aiken) Urish (Rob), and Kathleen (Aiken) Shupner (John); nephews, Jim Schwaderer (Mary), Gaylin Livingston, Terry Livingston and David Livingston; as well as several great and great-great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents; her sisters Ila (Aiken) Gross and Laura Jean (Drake) Livingston, one brother, Evart Aiken, and one nephew, Dale Livingston.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, at 11:00 a.m. at Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Big Rapids Assembly of God or Mecosta County Medical Center Cardio-Pulmonary Rehabilitation Program and may be left in care of the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids. Dear Susan Schwaderer, Thank you so much for emailing me with your sad news. I was so much looking forward to seeing her again at the reunion. The last time I saw her was at the 2004 reunion.
