Lorraine E. Gerst
Big Rapids – Lorraine E. Gerst, 81, of Big Rapids, went to be with her Heavenly Father, Thursday, April 30, 2009, at her residence.
She was born August 28, 1927, the daughter of George and Alma (Marlow) Skellenger. In 1971, Lorraine married Irven Gerst, and moved to the Bitely area, where she lived until moving to Big Rapids several years ago.
For many years, Lorraine was a distributor for Watkins Products throughout the area, and recently became a member of the Big Rapids Church of the Nazarene.
Her husband preceded her in death in 1992. Surviving are 1 son, Ron (Sharon) Gacek of Morley; 3 daughters, Mary (Robert) Cook of Big Rapids, Sally (Edward) Thebo of Big Rapids, Joanne (Harry) Telfor of White Cloud; 3 step-sons, Jimmie (Nancy) Gerst, Walter (Joanne) Gerst, and John (Cheri) Gerst; 2 step-daughters, Katherine (David) Weaver, and Janet (Alfred) Dexter; many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, including a special granddaughter, Lorie (Jeff) Hoekstra, who took care of “Granny” for many years; and her extended family at Parkview Village.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 6, 2009, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Brett Werner officiating. Burial will be in the Goodwell Township Cemetery. Lorraine’s family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, May 5, from 4-8 p.m., and prior to services on Wednesday. Share a memory or express condolences at www.mohnkefuneralhome.com.
