Alfred W. Schoenborn
Big Rapids – Alfred W. Schoenborn, 65, of Colfax Township, passed away Wednesday, April 15, 2009, at his residence.
He was born September 24, 1943, in Big Rapids, the son of Joseph and Lenabelle (Dare) Schoenborn, and graduated from Big Rapids High School.
In 1965, Al joined the US Army, and was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam War. He received an honorable discharge in 1969 and moved back to Big Rapids. Al was a member of the I.B.E.W. Local # 876, and worked as a Journeyman Lineman throughout the state until retiring in 1995.
He was a member of the Big Rapids AmVets Post #1941, and was an avid hunter and fisherman.
On September 12, 1970, he married Marsha Harvey, who survives. Also surviving are 1 son, Joseph (Sandra) of Williamston; 1 daughter, Tracey (James) Maynard of Big Rapids; 8 grandchildren, Brandi, Collin, Bradley, Chad, David, Kaylynn, Jamie and Brandon; his mother, Lenabelle of Big Rapids; 1 brother, Kenneth (Judy) Schoenborn of Big Rapids; 2 sisters, Marilyn (Lewis) Dougherty of White Cloud and Joan Bitner of Grayling; and many nieces and nephews. Al was preceded in death by a brother Paul and a sister Nina.
Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, April 20, 2009, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Curt Chaffee officiating. Memorial contributions for the AmVets may be left at the funeral home, where Alfred’s family will greet friends after 11:00 a.m. on Monday.
