Clarissa M. “Clip” Eckert
Big Rapids – Clarissa M. “Clip” Eckert, 73, of Big Rapids, passed away Sunday, March 22, 2009, at Mecosta County Medical Center.
She was born August 17, 1935, in Cadillac, the daughter of Alex and Lavina (Schalow) Sodergren. On October 30, 1952, Clip married Maynard Eckert, Sr., and has lived in Big Rapids since.
For many years, Clip worked at area restaurants, including Bower’s Restaurant, Jack & Emily’s, and the Paris Bar. She also worked for several years at Wolverine World Wide in Big Rapids.
Clip was a life member of the Big Rapids Aerie Eagles #25 35 Ladies Auxiliary, and enjoyed bowling.
Surviving are her husband Maynard; 8 children, Linda (Tim) Taylor of Three Rivers, Debra Eckert of Big Rapids, Michael (Georgina “Gigi”) Eckert of Victorville, CA, Randolph (Bonnie) Eckert of Big Rapids, Pamela Rozier of Remus, Maynard Eckert, Jr. of Brohman, Stacey (Mike) Fry of Big Rapids, and Tracey Eckert of Sparta; 17 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Clip was preceded in death by her parents, 2 brothers, and infant daughter Sandy.
Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, March 25, 2009, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with Rev. Michael Reigler officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions for the Shiners’ Children’s Hospital may be left at the funeral home, where Clip’s family will greet friends from 10:00 a.m. until time of services on Wednesday. We are so sorry to hear of your loss. I have known clip since 1953. she taught me to roller skateand we went all over . At the time she lived upstairs Bowers . We both worked there. Her husband was overseas at the time. I think we were the best skaters around at that time. Allso went on many Eagle bowling trips together. George & Edith Cady
