Big Rapids – Dorothy E. Mehl, 83, of Big Rapids, passed away Thursday, April 10, 2008, at Mecosta County Medical Center.

She was born June 19, 1924, in Reed City, the daughter of Charles and Hannah (Reberg) Enter, and attended school in Reed City and at Grand Rapids Godwin Heights.

On June 23, 1945, she married John Mehl in Grand Rapids, and the couple moved to Big Rapids in 1946, where they had lived since.

For many years, Dorothy worked at Ferris State University until retiring in 1989.  She was a long time member St. Peter’s Lutheran Church.

Her husband John preceded her in death in 2002.  Surviving are 3 daughters, Judy Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Towna (Roger) Aris of Big Rapids, and Vicki (Dale) Olson of Big Rapids; 4 grandsons, Jeff Johnson of Kansas City, MO, Nick (Teresa), Joe, and Roger Aris, all of Big Rapids; 1 brother, Norman Enter of Tustin; several nieces and nephews; and a special neighbor Leonard Worth.  Dorothy was also preceded in death by a brother Karl Enter and a sister Lucile Birtles.

Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., Monday, April 14, 2008, at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, with Rev. John Bookshaw officiating.  Burial will be in the Highland View Cemetery.  Memorial contributions for St. Peter’s may be left at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, where Dorothy’s family will greet friends on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., and at the church prior to services on Monday.
