Rodney – Fred L. Ball, 86, of Rodney, passed away Monday, February 4, 2008, at his residence.

He was born April 22, 1921, in Kalkaska, the son of Angus and Nora (Cross) Ball, and lived in the Saginaw area most of his life.  Fred graduated from Saginaw Arthur Hill High School, and worked for General Motors for over 30 years, retiring as an inspector in 1985.

On December 24, 1966, he married Esther F. Smith, and they moved to their property on Hillview Lake in Colfax Township several years ago.

Fred is survived by his wife; a son Thomas (Barb) Barber, and a daughter Cindy (Jeff) Baugh, both of Rodney; 4 grandchildren, Gary Marr, Nicole (Harold) Hudson, Tanya (Mike) Guild, and Timothy Barber; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by 3 brothers and 1 sister.

Funeral services will be 1:00 p.m., Thursday, February 7, at the Mohnke Funeral Home in Big Rapids, with    officiating. Memorial contributions in his name may be left in care of the funeral home, where Fred’s family will greet friends after 11:00 a.m. on Thursday.
